A short time ago, an anti-aircraft missile was launched from Syrian territory towards Israeli territory, an IDF source said.
The missile has exploded in midair.
"The rocket appears to have exploded in the air over Israeli territory," the IDF confirmed. "No special instructions for civilians on the Israeli home front have been issued at this time."
The IDF added, "The details are under review."
Meanwhile, just prior to 1:00a.m. on Sunday morning, Israelis in several areas around the country reported hearing explosions. Magen David Adom (MDA) and Israel Police received reports of an explosion which was heard in Jerusalem, Modi'in, Ramat Gan, Petah Tikva, the Sharon region, Ashkelon, and Be'er Sheva. It is believed to have been a sonic boom.
Following this, parts of the Syrian missile were discovered in the Bedouin city of Rahat, near Be'er Sheva in southern Israel. No one was injured, but damage was caused.
Parallel to the reports in Israel, Syria announced that its air defense system was activated against hostile targets over Homs and Tartus.
