The Iron Dome intercepted four out of six rockets that were fired at populated areas during the latest barrage, a success rate of only 67%. Two rockets struck the city of Sderot, wounding three people, while 16 rockets landed in open areas and so did not trigger the Iron Dome system.
The Iron Dome usually boasts an interception rate of well over 90% of rockets fired at populated areas.
Of further concern is that the rockets were fired in the middle of the day and the IDF was expecting rocket attacks, which should have benefitted the system's accuracy.
During a barrage of 34 rockets by Hamas terrorists in Lebanon during Passover last month, the Iron Dome system had an interception rate of 92%, which was itself considered low compared to the system's past performance, after three rockets were not intercepted.
In August 2022, during a weeklong conflict with the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in Gaza, over 1,100 rockets were fired at Israel. During that conflict, the Iron Dome system boasted an interception rate of 96%.
