Turkey leads region; Israel passes Iran

The 2026 Global Firepower index ranks Turkey first in the Middle East and ninth worldwide, with Israel second regionally and 15th globally, ahead of Iran, thanks to technological superiority, multi-layered air defence and quality over quantity.

With Turkey ranking first in the  Middle East according to the 2026 Global Firepower Index, it is hardly surprising that Israel is deeply concerned about the presence of thousands of Turkish troops in Syria.

On September 24, 2026, the Middle East Forum Observer asked a very interesting question: "Why Is Nobody Talking About the Turkish Occupation of Syria?"

Months earlier, on August 21, 2026, Ynet news provided insight into the Turkish presence in Syria, running a news report with an eye-opening headline and subheadline: "Israel defends Syria strike, warns against Turkish military expansion"  "Israel says it struck a Syrian base to prevent a Turkish military buildup near its border, citing Turkey’s presence across roughly 5% of Syria and Erdogan’s calls for Israel’s destruction."

Does the presence of a Turkish military buildup near the border with Northern Israel and that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan calls for "Israel's destruction" have anything to do with end-time prophecies found in the Bible?

Given that Turkey's president has openly called for "Israel's destruction", it isn't difficult to see how Turkey could be one of the nations aligned against Israel in the prophecy of Ezekiel 38:1–6 in the future.

Do you see the possibility that the Syrian government, headed by former Al-Qaeda commander and current Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, could combine its military forces with the Turkish army and local armed terrorist groups to launch a devastating attack on northern Israel (Isaiah 17:4–7) in the future?

The prophecies in Isaiah 17:1–14 and Jeremiah 49:23–27 were not completely fulfilled by the Assyrians in 732 BC. To learn more about how these passages point to a end-times war, see Bill Salus's article, "Why the Destruction of Damascus is a Future War Prophecy?"
