Explosions and interceptions reported in Jordan after Iran launches missiles at US targets, following an American strike on Larak Island.
Explosions were heard and interceptions were recorded in Jordan early Monday morning, following a launch attributed to Iran. The explosions came after Iranian media reported that missiles were launched from Iran towards US bases in the kingdom. A US source told Fox News that “nearly all incoming missiles have been intercepted at this point." The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the missile fire, announcing that it had targeted the US bases Al-Azraq and King Hussein in Jordan. According to the statement, the attacks were carried out using ballistic missiles. The Jordanian military announced that it had intercepted eight missiles that entered the country's airspace.
"Earlier today US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz," a US official told Axios. The official added that US forces are "monitoring the area closely and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce" through the strait. Tasnim, an Iranian news agency affiliated with the IRGC, reported that the attack was carried out by a drone and that two people were killed and two others wounded.
In a statement quoted by Iran's IRNA news agency, the IRGC vowed retaliation, saying, "The terrorist enemy's aggression on Larak Island will be met with punishment for the aggressor." The IRGC further accused the United States and Israel of attempting to reassert their influence in the region. The American-Zionist adversary, once more acting out of frustration over its domestic challenges and waning influence in the region, aims to resurrect its malevolent presence and sway public perception.
