Britain will reportedly recognize a Palestinian state as early as this weekend, British news site The Timesreported Wednesday. It is estimated that this will occur after US President Donald Trump completes his visit to the UK. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reportedly waited to announce the recognition out of concern that it would overshadow a joint press conference between the two leaders.
Starmer's announcement would come before several European nations are set to recognize a Palestinian State at the UN General Assembly next week. US, UK differ on IDF Gaza City operation. The Times went on to note the differences in the US and UK's reactions to the IDF invasion of Gaza City. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper called the operation "utterly reckless and appalling." "It will only bring more bloodshed, kill more innocent civilians & endanger the remaining hostages," she added.
In contrast, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the operation would make hostage deal and ceasefire negotiations harder. “It actually makes it harder to negotiate … because it emboldens these groups [Hamas].” He added that there would be an Israeli “counter-reaction to those moves”.
