This news comes after it was earlier reported that India, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Pakistan and Iraq would form a common naval coalition together with the Islamic Republic of Iran, thus implying that India is not only uniting with Tehran when it comes to trade, but also when it comes to security issues.
India already has a strong trade relationship with Iran. India exports to Iran rice, tea, sugar, drugs and some other items. Although India presently refrains from importing Iranian oil, with demands rising for more oil in India, India could in the future start to import Iranian oil, given that they are already importing Russian oil despite the existence of US sanctions. Until US sanctions kicked into place in 2018, Iran was one of the main oil suppliers for India.
Last April, the first trilateral consultation between Armenia, Iran and India was held. Many analysts claim that Iran’s attempts to form such a trilateral alliance are aimed at balancing Azerbaijan’s strategic alliance with Pakistan and Turkey in the Caucasus region. According to the Jamestown Institute, the three countries focused primarily on “economic issues and regional communication channels,” and “the sides agreed to continue consultations in the trilateral format.”
Nevertheless, India already plays a key role in Iran’s Persian Gulf–Black Sea Corridor and the Port of Chabahar, in the Sistan and Baluchistan province of southeastern Iran, which represents the transit and commercial bridge between Iran, India and Armenia. Both of these entities stand in stark contrast to Azerbaijan’s Zangezur Corridor, which Iran is doing everything in its power to undermine.
From an Israeli perspective, this is a worrying development, as it means that Israel stands alone together with Azerbaijan and Turkey in its quest to fight against the mullahs in Tehran. The mullahs are creeping closer to getting a nuclear weapon. They chant “death to Israel” and “death to America” at every available opportunity. There is a clock in Tehran that literally counts down the moment till the destruction of Israel. However, the community of nations, instead of standing in solidarity with Israel against this threat, prefers to trade and do other forms of business with the mullah’s in Tehran.
The Biden administration keeps on flip-flopping between appeasing the mullah’s with another nuclear deal and maintaining the status quo. Either way, it stands in the way of Israel being able to take proper actions against Iran. Israel’s allies in the Gulf reconciled with Tehran under Chinese mediation, since they believed that there was no chance that the United States would stand strong against Tehran. And this message of appeasement made by the Americans has resulted in Israel being effectively isolated in the region, which puts Israel in a grave situation globally.
What is happening between New Delhi and Tehran is just the tip of the iceberg regarding Israel. The question remains, who will be next to reach out to Tehran?
