Hundreds of Muslim worshipers rioted on the Temple Mount Sunday morning in an attempt to prevent Jews from visiting the holy site on the anniversary of the destruction of the first and second Holy Temple.
The rioters chanted nationalist slogans and clashed with police. Several rioters were injured, Arab media reported.
Police said, "Following nationalist calls and disturbances in the area of the Temple Mount, police forces under the command of the district commander, who were on the scene, began to disperse order violators in order to restore public order."
Thousands of Muslims arrived on the Temple Mount this morning for the Eid al-Adha sacrifice.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has ordered that the Temple Mount be closed to Jewish visitors for the morning hours, leaving hundreds of Jewish worshipers waiting outside the Mugrabi gate.
Later in the day, further assessments will be made and the possibility of allowing Jews to ascend the Temple Mount will be reexamined. WATCH
