"We need to be prepared for a conflict with Hamas this summer," Gallant told Galei Zahal Radio. "This is a sensitive period, and we need to be aware and take action to prevent such a war."
Gallant also spoke about the recent incitement Haaretz published.
"What Haaretz said about the National Religious community does not just twist history - it creates a needless rift in Israeli society," Gallant said.
He also spoke about the recent death of Reserve Colonel Pinhas "Pinki" Zuartz.
"Pinki, besides for being a fighter and a commander, was also a friend," Gallant said. "I saw how he acted bravely when he lost his leg and was injured. In my eyes, he was an exemplary person, who overcame his hardships both physically and spiritually, and acted like a Zionist.
"He had a quiet soul and a unique way of handling things. It's just sad."
