Around 596 B.C. the Hebrew prophet Jeremiah predicted that, "in the latter days," an epic biblical disaster would occur in the general location of the Bushehr nuclear reactor. This facility is presently the crown jewel of Iran's atomic energy program.
Several studies have concluded that this reactor is a nuclear catastrophe in the making. It is a 40 year old facility operating with a 30 year old cooling system, and nobody working onsite is adequately trained to handle a nuclear calamity.
When Russian nuclear fuel rods were loaded into the facility in August, 2010, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said:
"it makes it (Bushehr) essentially immune from attack by Israel. Because once the rods are in the reactor an attack on the reactor risks spreading radiation in the air, and perhaps into the water of the Persian Gulf."
Worsening matters, the reactor sits squarely atop the convergence point of 3 tectonic plates. After a 6.8 earthquake killed 37 people in Bushehr on April 10, 2013, the GCC Arab states across the gulf released a study that was completed in July, 2013. Their findings are summarized below.
(It is important to note that two-thirds of the world's desalinization plants are located within the GCC states of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, U.A.E. and Oman.)
