First Iranian protester dies at hands of regime since start of demonstrations, sources tell 'Post'

A protester became the first casualty of the ongoing Iranian protests when he was shot and killed on Wednesday, sources told The Jerusalem Post. Eighteen-year-old Mehdi Samavati was shot by security officials in the southern city of Fasa. Two independent sources confirmed to the Post that the regime had killed Samavati.

Residents of Fasa, which has a population of 11,000, had gathered outside the governor's office as well as other official buildings to protest the ongoing financial situation in Iran, witnesses stated. Some protesters were heard chanting slogans critical of the Islamic Republic during the gathering.

According to other reports coming out of Iran, security has been increased throughout the country as protests continue despite 25 provinces of Iran being on official shutdown due to cold weather and energy constraints. Despite this, protesters gathered in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Mashhad on Wednesday, with security forces deploying covert units near protest sites in Mashhad, according to reports. This is a developing story. (Source)
