No significant progress after Iran and E3 meeting, says source to i24NEWS

A new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the three European powers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom concluded on Tuesday in Geneva. A source familiar with the details tells i24NEWS: "Negotiations on inspections have progressed. Several points are still unresolved, and they are being discussed. Inspections are expected to resume at the agreed sites."

The discussions come as the European powers consider reimposing United Nations sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program. Deputy foreign ministers from Iran and the so-called E3 met following earlier talks in Istanbul last July, where European officials had proposed a potential six-month delay on sanctions in exchange for certain diplomatic commitments from Iran.

Sources familiar with the Geneva discussions described Iran’s commitments as vague and lacking sufficient detail to satisfy the European delegation. The talks focused on Western demands for renewed nuclear inspections and broader diplomacy, aiming to prevent Tehran from facing renewed sanctions that were lifted under the 2015 nuclear accord.

The E3 has repeatedly warned that it could trigger the so-called “snapback” of sanctions at the United Nations Security Council if meaningful progress is not achieved by October, when the nuclear deal’s provisions are set to lapse. (Source)
