Report: Netanyahu pledged not to target Hamas leaders in Qatar

The hostage deal which has seen the release of 26 Israeli hostages from Gaza so far includes a commitment by the Israeli government not to target the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization in Qatar, the French newspaper Le Figaro reported.

According to the newspaper, Qatar received from Israel as part of the outline for the release of the hostages from Gaza a promise according to which the Mossad would not carry out assassinations of senior Hamas members on Qatari soil.

It was also reported that the Qataris set conditions on their role as mediators between Israel and Hamas.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he has “instructed the Mossad to act against the heads of Hamas wherever they are.”

He added that there is “no such obligation" not to target Hamas leaders abroad in the hostage deal.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant added that Hamas' leaders outside of Gaza "are living on borrowed time."

“The struggle is worldwide: From gunman in the field to those who are enjoying luxury jets while their emissaries are acting against women and children, they are destined to die,” Gallant said.

As part of the current hostage deal, Israel agreed to halt its military operations against Hamas in Gaza for four days, beginning last Friday morning. Each day of the ceasefire, Hamas would release between 10-13 more hostages, all women and children. In exchange, Israel is releasing 150 security prisoners, including terrorists who committed or attempted to commit attacks, but no terrorists who succeeded in murdering Israelis.

About 240 people were kidnapped by Hamas and other terrorists during the October 7 massacre. Nearly 200 will remain in captivity in Gaza when the current deal is completed.
