Trump to discuss 'Palestinian self-determination'

During his upcoming visit to the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump “will express his desire for dignity and self-determination for the Palestinians" when he meets Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas, national security adviser H.R. McMaster told a White House briefing on Friday.

McMaster added that in Israel, Trump would "reaffirm America's unshakeable bond to the Jewish state".

He further said that it would be "up to the President" to ultimately decide on trilateral meeting with PA chairman Abbas and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Trump announced last week that he would make his first state visit to Israel on May 22, part of a trip which will also take him to Saudi Arabia and the Vatican.

It has been speculated that while in Israel, Trump would attempt to organize a meeting with Netanyahu and Abbas.

Abbas indicated this week he was willing to meet with Netanyahu, if the meeting was under the “auspices” of Trump.
